Pristine "Silver Bell" CD-R Burn - Free
06/05/07 at 19:27:16

Just a friendly reminder:  I have a great copy of "Silver Bell" on my harddrive that I originally got from SMit, and I will burn it and send it to anyone that wants it, no shipping and handling or b&p required.  Just pm me with the address to which you want it sent.

Not really.  I love live bootlegs, but I'm completely uninitiated as far as Patty is concerned.  I do torrents online, and obviously that is not allowed with her stuff.

I love her Silver Bell/ Flaming Red period; what kind of live documentation is out there for that stuff?  Is there a list somewhere?

Killer!  Thanks.  Here's my dreamlist:

Cat's Cradle - 1997-04-13 and 1998-02-11

Iron Horse - 1998-02-18

Somerville Theatre - 1998-02-21 and 1996-11-08

The Ark, early and late - 1998-02-25

The Troubador - 1998-04-18

3rd & Lindsley Bar & Grille - 1999-01-01

Berklee Performance Center - 2000-10-17

That should be way more than enough to start with.  Anyone have any of these?

For those who already have "Silver Bell" and still want something in return, I have a ridiculous amount of top-notch legal RoIOs from dimeadozen.org I can send; artists in my RoIO collection include the following:

A.C.T - most popular band in Sweden; a catchy mixture of power pop and progressive metal.  Think a more technically adept Queen

The darn
wells - top-notch Americana.  Wilco my tushy
.

The Decemberists

Evanescence

FM

Jeff Tweedy

Jefferson Airplane

Joan Osbourne

Journey

Kristen Hersh

KT Tunstall

Matt Nathanson

Natalie Merchant

Of Montreal

Pain of Salvation

Patty Griffin (just kidding)

PJ Harvey

Porcupine Tree

The Presidents of the United States of America

Primus

Red*Halo

Rush

Ryan Adams

The Shins

Soundgarden

Throwing Muses

Tom Petty & the Heartbreakers

Tori Amos

Umphrey's McGee

Uncle Tupelo

ViRGOS (merlot)

Wilco

I trade in gapless 128-bit AAC format, either on audio CD or data DVD, depending on how many shows you want.  The files come with all textual info and track order data input so that they will automatically load and play properly when imported into iTunes.

Really my dreamlist consists of any full-band Patty performance, audio or video, wherein she plays anything from Silver Bell or Flaming Red.  Me likey the electric stuff.

I just sent off 7 CDs today, so check the mail if you are expecting something soon.

Thanks.  My email notifications for PMs stopped coming, so that's why I've been sluggish getting these out lately.  Maybe I turned off notifications and then forgot about it.

I would be interested in a "pristine" copy as well...I can trade from among several live shows by Patty and a few other folks or do a B & P. Let me know! Thanks!

Personal crisis over.  Basically I was like this  cry but now I'm like this  Smiley.

I think I might pass the torch on to someone else though.  I'm a little hard up for free time right now.  I think it's a good idea to continue the tradition, though;  it allows people new to trading to have something to start out with.

I'm happy to make the same offer for anyone within the UK. I'm not sure how 'pristine' my copy is. It sounds good to me. Also LFML3 only since my copies of 1 and 2 are the originals.

If anyone wants a trade I think the only Patty show I have is Belle of the Scottish Rite.

That lasted about a day.  This mood disorder thing is complexicated.

Anyone who got the copy from me, or from the person who gave it to me, "Smitt", I believe it was, qualifies for being able to share the "pristine" copy, sourced from the best-sounding copy we could find.  No glitches.  I don't know why I chose the word "pristine" - it's a little odd, but anyway:

-rip it on the computer in some CD-quality or lossless format
-burn it with no additional space between songs.  The iTunes gapless setting is probably not necessary.  For those with another burning program, it's either DAO or TAO - I can never keep them straight.  Probably DAO.
-if you've got some time to spare, burn it at a low speed, like 1x or 4x.  This probably isn't necessary either, but it lessens the probability of introducing glitches into the source recording as it gets passed on and on.

This thread should probably be edited pending further developments - as it is now, the title and first post are no longer accurate.  I'm sorry, guys; life gets weird sometimes, and this is one of those times for me.

-Jon

With the new trading policy, everyone with this copy can just email high-quality mp3 or m4a files to those that want the album.  Assuming parties at both ends have forgiving email servers such as GMail.

Scratch that idea.  I tried it, unsuccessfully.  Maybe in a .zip file or something.

Those are lossy formats. Doing that will degrade the quality of the recording. There are already mp3 versions of the songs if anyone wants to root around for them. You mentioned lossless at first and you were right. Electronic trading (if it ever happens) should be in lossless format, e.g. .flac, typically about 2-3 times the size of mp3 files. Not impossible to distribute through email or webmail but you'd have to send them one or two at a time.

It depends on the priorities of the listener.  I burn everything from AIFF to cda on cds, but in all honesty a 256 m4a file still sounds pretty awesome.  I was trying to send higher bitrate mp3s - anything below 192 kbps is a waste of anyone's time.

flac and shn files are way too big for GMail to send even one of those.  I was surprised at how little compression actually happens - flac only reduces uncompressed audio size by a third.  So you end up with about a 40 MB file, as opposed to a 3 to 5 MB mp3 file or an even smaller m4a file.
