I love live bootlegs, but I'm completely uninitiated as far as Patty is concerned. I do torrents online, and obviously that is not allowed with her stuff. I love her Silver Bell/ Flaming Red period; what kind of live documentation is out there for that stuff? Is there a list somewhere?

I trade in gapless 128-bit AAC format, either on audio CD or data DVD, depending on how many shows you want. The files come with all textual info and track order data input so that they will automatically load and play properly when imported into iTunes.

That lasted about a day. This mood disorder thing is complexicated.

Anyone who got the copy from me, or from the person who gave it to me, "Smitt", I believe it was, qualifies for being able to share the "pristine" copy, sourced from the best-sounding copy we could find. No glitches. I don't know why I chose the word "pristine" - it's a little odd, but anyway:

-rip it on the computer in some CD-quality or lossless format
-burn it with no additional space between songs. The iTunes gapless setting is probably not necessary. For those with another burning program, it's either DAO or TAO - I can never keep them straight. Probably DAO.
-if you've got some time to spare, burn it at a low speed, like 1x or 4x. This probably isn't necessary either, but it lessens the probability of introducing glitches into the source recording as it gets passed on and on.

This thread should probably be edited pending further developments - as it is now, the title and first post are no longer accurate. I'm sorry, guys; life gets weird sometimes, and this is one of those times for me.

Those are lossy formats. Doing that will degrade the quality of the recording. There are already mp3 versions of the songs if anyone wants to root around for them. You mentioned lossless at first and you were right. Electronic trading (if it ever happens) should be in lossless format, e.g. .flac, typically about 2-3 times the size of mp3 files. Not impossible to distribute through email or webmail but you'd have to send them one or two at a time.

It depends on the priorities of the listener. I burn everything from AIFF to cda on cds, but in all honesty a 256 m4a file still sounds pretty awesome. I was trying to send higher bitrate mp3s - anything below 192 kbps is a waste of anyone's time.

flac and shn files are way too big for GMail to send even one of those. I was surprised at how little compression actually happens - flac only reduces uncompressed audio size by a third. So you end up with about a 40 MB file, as opposed to a 3 to 5 MB mp3 file or an even smaller m4a file.
