The show is a lot of fun and the musicians are all outstanding! I was lucky enough to get to go to the Tulsa show at the Brady Theater...totally sold out but I got great seats. Patty's voice blends beautifully with Robert Plant's and it's always an extra treat to hear her singing with Buddy Miller so it was pretty much awesome all around. There were a few little technical difficulties but they played them off really well and, when they just couldn't pretend, RP would make some joke about it and the audience would go crazy (as they were through most of the show). Patty had a few solo parts to the songs but mostly just sang along with Robert or did "oohs" and "aahs" as only she can do. Her voice was spot on during the night and was a bit of a buffer for the moments when Robert Plant's wasn't quite there. I can't believe they didn't just all crash down from exhaustion at the end though. I don't remember a single moment where she wasn't moving. She swayed and danced all the way through the 2 hours, but looked like she was having a ball. I couldn't help but wonder how this experience might influence the writing and sound of the next album of hers. Of course, I'm buying this one as soon as Band of Joy is released. Angel Dance was awesome! So many of them were awesome. Anyway, it was ... well... awesome Smiley

By the way Dave, the song "Take it Down" is from John Hiatt, as far as I know.

FYI. Emmylou Harris gave a radio interview yesterday (6/25) in Atlanta on WMLB in which she said that the first ten days in December have been booked in Buddy Miller's home studio in Nashville and that she, Patty, Buddy and Shawn Colvin are each bringing four songs to the project for a new compilation CD.

For you Emmylou fans, you might be interested in knowing that she also said that she's working on her own new album, which is being produced by Jay Joyce (does THAT name ring a bell, Patty fans?) and that she's written 10 songs for it....  I'm unsure, but think it's very possible that Patty will provide some harmony vocals for Emmylou's album.

So i have gotten both the "i said to the sky" and "moon song" demos thanks to a friend.  If anyone wants silver bell i would be willing to include "moon song", "i said to the sky" and the tom waites cover of "take it down" with the Silver Bell album.  i'll check around for other Patty songs i have on other cds.  I have some live Patty that were on Pittsburghs WYEP cds...there is a great version of "tony" i could include as well.  Let me know if anyone is interested.  Ill send out to 4 people who PM me.  hope to hear from ya.  later guys.  much love...enjoy the summer.  I know i am.  i"m sitting here on LAKE ERIE in new york enjoying the sun and music i have in my ear.  itchysun@msn.com

10  General / In Concert / Patty in Pittsburgh

Dusted off the flaming red boots ( it's been 2 yrs since Patty last graced our city) & headed out to see Patty close out the Three Rivers Arts Festival. Decided at the last minute b/c of iffy weather, but the fates were kind & not only held off the rain, but also kept the sun behind clouds for most of the show. Patty wore a large, loose shift blouse, beige & brown, with short, cuffed jeans, & red boots, a bit of knee showing in between. Her hair looked brown from where I sat, with it only looking red when a strong light was behind her. Doug Lancio on guitar, Frank Swart on upright bass, John Dederick on keyboards & Marco Giovino on drums. John & Frank were with Patty when I first started following her about 10 years ago. Marco is new to me. Set List:

Standing
If I Had My Way
Wade in the Water
Little Fire
Death's Got a Warrant
Move Up
Heavenly Day
Coming Home to Me
No Bad News   -  solo
Mary  -   solo
Love Throw a Line
The Strange Man
Waiting for My Child
Stay on the Ride
I Smell a Rat
Up to the Mountain

Encore

Why Get Up

Delighted to see & hear Patty again. As usual , My favorites were the slow, soulful ones; "Waiting for My Child" , "Coming Home to Me" & "Up to the Mountain". "No Bad News was a knockout. Hard to believe that one guitar could be so raucous & rythmic. It seems to be a difficult  song to play , & Patty was spot on, instrument & vocals. I was surprised to get all the titles right b/c Patty has a lot of songs that are new to me, & she doesn't always announce them. Amazing that there are at least 30-40 songs that I would have liked to hear & didn't, but I was completely satisfied with what she did sing. Doug was great on guitar, his soloes & his interplay with Patty's guitar on occasion , while never competing with Patty's vocals. Total band yolume did edlipse her momentarilt, but not often. Looking forward to another CD , & the next Pittsburgh stop.
