"I'm so excited to do a show with Jack Ingram, Scott Miller and the Grounded in Music kids. It is going to be a fun night of music and will give people a chance to find out all the great work being done by Grounded in Music," said headlining artist Patty Griffin. Griffin so avidly believes in the program, she took a seat on the GIM board this year and helped plan this year’s event.
“Patty has been instrumental to the program since headlining our fundraiser last year. As a new board member, her contributions have been invaluable,” said Joe Stallone, Founder of Grounded in Music. “We are thrilled to have her on board and cannot wait for this very special evening. It is a culmination of many successes this year, including the build-out of our brand new recording studio at the Boys and Girls Club in South Austin, of which we are so proud.”
Grounded in Music will soon unveil its state-of-the art charitable media studio at the Boys and Girls Club in South Austin. “The GIM studio contains all of the hardware and software necessary to provide our young musicians with the opportunity to record and produce professional quality music and also provide many of the software tools used in the marketing and distribution of professional music,” said Gina Fant-Saez, CEO of eSession.com, owner of Blue World Music, author of Pro Tools for Musicians & Songwriters and GIM board member. “Computers play an essential role in today’s music industry; from songwriting, recording, internet collaboration, digital marketing and distribution, press kits, music videos, web pages etc.”
Grounded in Music will be creating a diverse curriculum to build skills in computers, songwriting, recording, web design, digital photography and video editing among a long list of others. Contributions were raised from various local donors to construct the studio which is built on a super-charged MacPro computer loaded with Digidesign’s Pro Tools - the standard recording software in studios around the world. The studio will be able to record solo artists or full bands and facilitate anything from hip-hop drum programming, MIDI sequencing or an acoustic guitar and vocalist. Grounded in Music hopes exposure to this state-of-the-art recording facility will inspire young people to not only learn to play a musical instrument, but to broaden their knowledge in all facets of music and begin to experience the creative possibilities combining music with today’s technology.
Launched in 2007 in Austin, Texas, Grounded in Music is a 501 (c)(3) non-profit corporation whose sole mission is to change the lives of under-privileged children grade four through 12 by exposing them to the possibilities available by choosing music as a career, hobby, or alternative to life on the streets. Students are taught a variety of skills in musicianship such as writing lyrics, playing instruments, as well as

exploring other areas of the music industry. The program also provides exclusive opportunities to be mentored by such well-known participating artists as event headliner Patty Griffin, My Morning Jacket, Vallejo, Broken Teeth and Jonathan Tyler and the Northern Lights. Other artists such as Ray Wylie Hubbard and Cory Morrow have financially supported the program.
The founders of the Austin-based non-profit believe that immersion into music at a young age has a dramatic effect on children’s overall well-being by boosting confidence. Statistics show that students who are involved in music programs early in life perform better academically in the areas of math and reading and also score higher on the SATs in the areas of math and verbal, regardless of their socio-economic background. This success in turn helps build good character and is a major contributor to the positive individual they can become.
Grounded in Music was founded in early 2007 by industry professionals Joe Stallone, (Partner, Oaks, Hartline & Daly, LLP), Jeff Kreinik (Director of Sales and Marketing for Front Gate Tickets), Zach Baker (Owner of The Jiles Agency), Michael McKinley (CEO of Made Creative Management), and Matt Hoffman (Legal Attorney of Duane Morris LLP).
